Rates

As general rule, I charge between R450 and R600 per hour. If I am required to work after hours to meet a difficult deadline, the fees are doubled. My market-related rates are based on figures given as industry averages by the Alliance of Language and Media Practitioners (LAMP). The quality of the material I receive is relevant, and the following prices are a guideline only. 

• Editing fiction and creative non-fiction: between R0,35 and R0,50 per word
• Proofreading fiction and creative non-fiction: between R0,22 and R0,30 per word
• Editing academic these/dissertations: between R0,35 and  R0,50 per word
• Proofreading academic these/dissertations: between R0,22 and R0,30 per word
• Copywriting: between R3,00 and R5,00 per word
• Reference checking (academic texts): R15 per reference
   

Of course, a substantial discount could be negotiated if the project is a big one.

My minimum fee for any small job, taking less than thirty minutes, is R200.

I provide quotes based on a sample chapter, or chapters, of the manuscript. I return the edited sample, with changes made in MS Word’s tracked changes, allowing the client to assess my style of editing.
